Libya.X.Art — Who we are

A platform for contemporary Libyan art

Libya X Art is an independent platform advancing contemporary art from Libya and connecting it to wider international conversations.

We exist to make Libya’s artistic landscape more visible, more accessible and more fully represented. We work with artists, curators, institutions and audiences to create meaningful encounters across geographies, disciplines and generations.

Libya is not a single story. It is a meeting point of Africa and the Mediterranean, ancient histories and urgent presents, inherited traditions and evolving identities. Contemporary artists working from and in relation to Libya engage this complexity with clarity, imagination and force. Their practices explore memory, place, displacement, belonging, resilience and transformation — while resisting the limits of any single narrative.

Libya X Art provides a platform for these practices to be encountered on their own terms and within the broader field of contemporary art.

Through exhibitions, collaborations, publications and cultural initiatives, we support the circulation of Libyan art and create new contexts for dialogue among artists, collectors, institutions, researchers and communities.

Our approach is curatorial, independent and open-ended. We do not define Libyan art by geography, history or expectation. Instead, we foreground its plurality: different generations, mediums, positions and ways of seeing. We are committed to building the conditions in which artists can shape their own narratives and reach new audiences.

Libya X Art × L Circle

Collaboration is at the heart of Libya X Art.

We believe that the visibility and vitality of Libya’s artistic scene can only grow through exchange — by bringing together artists, thinkers, curators, institutions and cultural initiatives around a shared ambition: to champion Libyan art, strengthen its presence and give it the recognition it deserves.

Our collaboration with L Circle embodies this mission.

Born from a collective of Libyan artists conscious of the importance of art in shaping memory, identity and cultural dialogue, L Circle is an independent space for creation, thought and exchange.

It brings together artists around a simple but powerful conviction: that Libya’s artistic culture must not only be created, but also discussed, documented, transmitted and carried forward.

For Libya X Art, supporting and collaborating with L Circle is a natural extension of our purpose.

L Circle creates from within. Libya X Art helps open the circle outward.

Together, we seek to create new spaces for Libyan artists to be seen and heard; to encourage experimentation and critical thought; to preserve artistic memory; and to connect Libya’s contemporary creative scene with wider audiences and conversations.

This collaboration reflects a broader ambition: to contribute to a confident, visible and enduring Libyan artistic ecosystem — one that celebrates its own voices while engaging freely with the world.

Because Libyan art is not a chapter waiting to be rediscovered.
